• Church leaders from around the UK are calling for a windfall tax on fossil fuel companies to tackle the cost of living crisis and for energy efficiency measures to reduce heating bills.

The Church of England is still heavily invested in fossil fuels despite the fact that oil, gas and coal are literally fuelling the climate crisis, but with your help, we can change that. Operation Noah is pleased to announce that we have received funding to expand our successful Bright Now campaign – which works with UK Churches to divest from fossil fuels and invest in climate solutions – and have hired two new staff members with this funding, Julia Corcoran and Sharon Hall, doubling our Bright Now staff. 

In an open letter published in Friday’s Church Times (25 February), six bishops and 130 clergy including Rt Revd Dr Rowan Williams, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Revd Dr Sam Wells, Vicar of St Martin-in-the-Fields, and Revd Lucy Winkett, Rector of St James’s Church, Piccadilly, have called on the Church of England’s Church Commissioners to divest immediately from oil giant ExxonMobil.
